    Summer Crush Cruise-In Success

Thank you to all our members who joined us on our road trip to Summer Crush Winery for the Miata Club Cruise In event today. We had 25 cars meet up at Dunkin Donuts for the ride up to Fort Pierce. The overall turnout was far more than I expected, 110 cars from all over the state. It was a fun day and hopefully we can make this an annual event.

Kudos to Mark Gilbert. A lot of hard work and coordination goes into organizing an event that draws 110 Miatas from all over the state. The day at Summer Crush was a spectacular success and Mark cannot be thanked enough.

The most rewarding aspect of the day besides meeting all the members from the other clubs was the fact we had 25 of our club members join us for the ride up to the winery. Hopefully we can keep this great momentum going into the new year!

Florida Miata's Cruise In To Summer Crush Winery

Please mark your calendars as I’m sure you won’t want to miss this great event. Our November 10th road trip will take us back to one of our favorite venues, The Summer Crush Winery in Fort Pierce.

There is one twist this time around. We have set the day up as a Florida Cruise In for all Miata Clubs in the state. We already have confirmation that the Space Coast , Treasure Coast , Central Florida Miata Cruising Club and Daytona Area Miata Clubs will be attending.

Our cars will be parked in the festival fairgrounds area of the vineyard so we can show off our rides to all visitors. Should be a wonderful day full of camaraderie with our fellow Miata brothers and sisters, great music and food. Hope to see a big turnout from our club.

Details on meet up place and time will be forthcoming on the event page.

Summer Crush Winery – This Saturday March 3rd

Summer Crush Winery is having two acoustic bands this Saturday, March 3rd. For those of you who have never been to the winery, it is a fun place. They offer wine tasting, food and live music all afternoon. We’ve been there a couple of times with the club and have had a great time on both occasions.

Check their web site for other weekend activities throughout the year. It’s a nice top down ride up to Fort Pierce for the day and the weather should be glorious this weekend with temps only in the low 70’s.

If anyone is interested in going this weekend, a group of members will be meeting at the Dunkin Donuts on Gateway Blvd. just off of I-95 at 10:30 on Saturday morning. It certainly will be a fun day!

You can sample some of the music from this weekends bands below.

A Swing and String Weekend, beginning Saturday 12-5pm with
    The String Assassins
    Professor Pennygoode’s Mighty Flea Circus

Are you kidding me… both these bands in one day! Have we gone crazy?
Don’t miss this no ticket required special event. Rain or shine.

Summer Crush Winery Trip September 24, 2016

Miata Club roadtrip to Summer Crush Winery

We had a great time at the winery. While Tammy and I were not able to make it to the meeting place to caravan to the winery, we did make it up there albeit about 1/2 hour late.

I believe I counted 7 or 8 cars there; lower turnout than I expected, but still a decent showing nonetheless.

Tammy and I arrived and started looking for the group. Hmm, the cars are here but where are the people? Sherlock Holmes here then figured out they must be in the Tasting Room, and sure enough, they were there.

There was good surfer music. I don’t recall the name of the first band, but I did recognize the woman playing lead guitar. I had worked with her a few years ago. She had tried to put together a band back a few year back, and I even got together with her and prospective band mates and had a fun afternoon drumming for her, but she was not able to put it together then. She knocked around trying to do a classic rock band, but then this surfer-themed band opening came along, and you saw and heard the result

After that band was done, a Beach Boys cover band took over. Both bands elicited a great response, especially from a spry elderly couple that danced seemingly at least half of the songs while we were there.

There was also a vintage surfboard show, as well as a surfer-style car show, judged by popular vote. Tammy and I were pleased that our favorite car, a 1967 Ford Fairlane red/white two-tone station wagon, was the winner.

The outside bar was doing a brisk and steady business. If any of you ever go, you HAVE TO try the wine slushies. Perfectly refreshing.

The atmosphere was friendly, the weather could have been a few degrees cooler, but at least the large fans in the pavilion provided some relief.

Many of the group left just a few minutes before Tammy and I did. On our way south on the turnpike, in the rain, up ahead I could see a red NB Miata traveling quite slowly, with flashers on. I thought “Uh-oh, is Lou having trouble?!?”

As we got closer I could see it was a lowered Miata. Whew, not Lou. Then as I got closer still, I could see the reason for the driver going only around 50 MPH while traffic was whooshing by at 80. The youngster’s car was “Hella-Flushed” you know, the style of lowering a car so much that the negative camber makes the suspension look like it’s broken, and the tires are contacting the road on a very tiny area. Oh, well, a white-knuckled drive on the turnpike is NOT my idea of a well-handling car, but to each his own. But not for me.

We had fun, and thanks to the club for organizing the event.

Great write up Doug. It was a fun day. Sorry more of our Miata Club members didn’t join in on the trip. If we do this again next year, hopefully a lot more folks will join in since we’ve had a such great experience each time we’ve gone there.
