Denise and Jim just put together the Railroad…

Denise and Jim just put together the Railroad Museum Road Trip. I think all of our members contribute in one way or another. Not every event is for everyone, and I think it is nice whether we get a large or small turn out. I think everyone should throw things they are doing out there and if someone wants to go, they will! But certainly no one should be offended if you end up going by yourself.

I know for Rob and I it is very difficult to drive 90 minutes to go to a meeting and then another 90 minutes home – unless we are just up for a drive and feel like doing that. Personally I would like to see the meetings rotate around so we have one towards the south once-in-a-while. Honestly, you are never going to make everyone happy!

Bonnet House Museum & Gardens – March Road Trip

Our road trip for March was to the beautiful historic Bonnet House Museum & Gardens in the middle of Ft. Lauderdale on  the beach and intercostal waterway. It is a hidden treasure preserved in the heart of the city. This is truly old Florida and such a gem.

Nestled among miles of beachfront development are 35 acres of a native barrier island ecosystem. The Main House is filled with a collection of art and the personal treasures of the Birch/Bartlett families. Here, you can walk where ancient Tequesta Indians, early European settlers, and shipwrecked sailors once roamed. See one of the finest orchid collections in the continental U.S. and catch a glimpse of wading birds and an occasional manatee.

Much of the natural environment of barrier islands has been lost today to commercial development. A walk along the Nature Trail allows you to step back in time and experience a rare piece of old South Florida. Thanks to Evelyn Bartlett who had the vision to keep the property as it was.

We had a great time, had no idea how big and nice the winery is. We got a tour of the wine making by the owner, and then he later joined us for lunch in the brewery.
Thank you Robert for setting this all up for us!

This past Sunday, June 25, 2017, we took a lovely road trip to the Seminole Inn near Indiantown, Florida, close to Lake Okeechobee, The sun was out, almost no rain and we had about 43 people attend. I personally enjoyed the wonderful history on the Inn. I hope you enjoy my photos.

The Hillsboro Lighthouse Road Trip and Tour

Our Miata Family enjoyed a delightful road trip adventure to the Hillsboro Inlet Lighthouse recently. The property is only accessible once a month by boat. We climbed to the top to enjoy the views. We met with local historians and preservationists who gave us educational and entertaining presentation. We relaxed, enjoyed the breeze and the good company, before returning to the resort on the boat through the inter-coastal channel.
