Special thanks to Doug Quara for scheduling the Sebring Racetrack road trip for our club. It should be a great experience for all of us to be able to drive our cars on this fabled track for pace laps. We hope that all of you Miata enthusiasts take advantage of this great opportunity. Please spread the word so we have a big turnout for this event.

Is this a day trip? Sebring is a 2 hour drive from Ft Lauderdale and also a 2 hour drive from West Palm.

Yes, it will be a day trip. We will most likely leave around 8 a.m. as Doug suggested we be there by 10 a.m. . Details on where we will meet up to caravan to the track will be forthcoming.

In case you wanted to see an even FASTER lap!… LOL

          • Doug Quara 4:30pm on Tuesday, January 31, 2017 Permalink | Reply

This smacks of being an “alternative fact”. Viewers can check the timer in the top-right to see which is fastest.

To be fair, full disclosure, here’s how it works out between DJ and me: my fastest ever at Sebring is 2:42.45 (video above). DJ’s on the same day, his fastest at that track is 2:42.54 (no video), for a difference of 0.09 seconds. But I have to give it to him, since I did it around 10:30am with a 1/2 tank of gas. DJ did it in the heat of the day around 3pm, with a full tank of gas, so all other things being equal, I’d say he would have done a faster lap at 10:30. At Homestead, we’re about 0.5 seconds apart for our fastest-ever lap, with DJ having the faster time there, in the 1:48-second range.

Love the father/son rivalry. Just how it should be!

I see there is a healthy number of people participating in this road trip. Great to see!

Here is the roster for the event; you can see many interesting cars will be on track, including some dedicated professionally-prepared race cars, so it should make for an interesting spectacle.

For Sale – 2010 Miata Touring PRHT

The new Soul Red RF is waiting for me at the dealers but I need to sell my car first. My car has a 6 speed manual transmission, power retractable hardtop and has 56,000 miles on it. Like new condition inside and out. All maintenance has been performed by Mazda dealer. Dropped the price to $13,000. If you know of anyone interested, please have them contact me at 954-389-9841. Don’t know how long the dealer will have the car so I need to move quickly.

    Thanks, Mark.

RF Club Model Review at Grieco Mazda

Let me start off by saying the people at Grieco were very kind as to let Marisol and I take a new RF out for an extended test drive today. Special thank you to Cedrick for making this happen.

Upon entering the cabin, I noticed the very upscale look of the interior of the car but also felt a slight bit cramped as compared to my car but nothing I couldn’t live with. The seats were a little snug too for me width wise but seemed to hold you in place very well in the turns. Hopefully the side bolsters will relax and soften up somewhat over time to be more comfortable for me.

In driving the car, I noticed how silky smooth the shifting was and the get up and go the car had as compared to my NC. The exhaust note was very nice and again sounded better to me than my stock NC.

The question for me in wanting to test drive the car was the open air feeling and if it felt like it was a real convertible or not. The resounding answer to that was yes.

You don’t really notice the targa bar overhead or the side fastbacks unless you are looking to the rear sides of the car. Vision to the sides is definitely lacking but you have to rely on your mirrors for that.

Looking directly out the rear view mirror was not an issue at all vision wise. Felt no difference than my hardtop.

Overall the same exhilarating feeling of driving a true convertible is found in the new RF. Mazda did a fine job in designing the car and I’m certain it will be a huge success.

So how did it look in person?

      • Mark Gilbert 8:50pm on Sunday, January 15, 2017 Permalink | Reply

The car is very striking in person. Definitely will draw a lot of attention . Love the sleek styling. Looks like a mini version of Jag I think. One thing I noticed though was how small it looked and felt as compared to my NC. Many people complained how bloated the NC looked when it was released. This is not the case with RF.

    Miata RF available at Bachrodt

Lou Bachrodt on West Atlantic has a Ceramic RF that HAS NOT been spoken for, if anybody is interested. Contact Mohammed and tell him I sent you.

Thanks for the info Karl. Greico has a grey Club that I’m going to test drive today. Probably stop by Bachrodt on my way up too. I want to see if the RF feels like a convertible or not. Will report my findings later.
